PROGRAMME OF OUTINGS, VISITS AND HOLIDAYS
Following the successful visits arranged in previous years, it is proposed to offer an extended programme of visits during 2012, with transport arranged for Knutsford U3A members. In addition Leek U3A have invited members of Knutsford U3A to join them on a holiday in 2012 with coach pick up from Knutsford. Details and booking arrangements will appear on this page of the website, also in the Newsletter, and will be announced at the monthly General Meetings.

NATIONAL MEMORIAL ARBORETUM AND LICHFIELD CATHEDRAL ON WEDNESDAY 9 MAY 2012
On arrival you have the option to explore the beautiful grounds on your own or of attending an act of remembrance in the chapel, with an introductory talk followed by a guided walking tour. On this you will see some of the memorials and the developing landscape. Instead of walking you can take a Land Train journey with a commentary. This costs £2.00 payable on the day.
We will meet for a pre booked lunch in the restaurant after which we will drive on to Lichfield Cathedral. There will be a conducted tour of this magnificent building followed by tea/coffee and biscuits before we make our journey home to Knutsford.
The coach will leave Knutsford bus station at 9.15 am and should be back in Knutsford by 6 pm approximately. The cost of the tour with a hot two course lunch and tea is £35. As places are limited you can book now by cheque, made payable to Knutsford and District U3A and send it to Freda Froehlich (details over page) but your cheque will not be cashed until the end of April.

SETTLE TO CARLISLE RAILWAY THURSDAY 21 JUNE
The coach will leave Knutsford bus station at 9.00 am and arrive at Settle railway station in time to catch the 11.46 train to Carlisle. The 72 mile route from Settle to Carlisle takes us through remote regions of the Yorkshire Dales and the North Pennines and is considered to be the most scenic railway in England. We go over the 24 arches of the Ribblehead Viaduct, into the longest tunnel on the line at Blea Moor and, after leaving the Dales at Garsdale, we go through the gentle, lush rolling hills of the Eden Valley, with rural villages and market towns, arriving at the great border city of Carlisle at around 1.29 pm
Light refreshments are available to buy
on the train and you will have time for lunch in Carlisle, as well as a look
round, before we leave by coach from the Carlisle railway station at 3.00 pm.
With a comfort stop on the way, we should arrive in Knutsford at 6.0 pm
approximately.

STRATFORD AND ROYAL SHAKESPEARE THEATRE
SUNDAY 9TH SEPTEMBER
This visit includes return coach travel to Stratford, a tour of the Royal Shakespeare
Theatre and a matinee performance of Twelfth Night.
We will leave Knutsford bus station at 9.15 am and arrive in Stratford at 12 noon in time for the tour of the theatre at 12.15. This will last about an hour, after which you will have time for lunch or a brief look round Stratford before the performance which starts at 3.00 pm. We think we will be leaving Stratford around 6.00 pm but more accurate details will be given at a later date.
The cost is £51 per person if you
include the tour of the theatre but £44 if this is omitted. If you would prefer
just to visit Stratford for about six hours the cost would be £16
per person.
We think this is going to be a popular venture for our U3A so it is essential
that you book early by sending your cheque, made payable to Knutsford and
District U3A. Your cheque will not be cashed until the end of June.

HOLIDAY WITH LEEK U3A - ISLE OF WIGHT JUNE 2012
Leek U3A have been arranging holidays for their members for many years. They have visited China, South America, Russia, Jordan, and many other countries in Europe and also places in the U.K. They use a travel company Tailored Travel to handle their bookings and holiday arrangements. This company is ATOL registered.
They are inviting Knutsford U3A members to join them in a forthcoming holiday to the Isle of Wight, which will take place next year. Entitled the History and Heritage of the Isle of Wight departure is 11th June 2012 for 5 days, and features; Half board accommodation, all excursions and guided tours included, Blue Badge Guide on days 2, 3, and 4, executive coach throughout, return Wightlink ferry crossing from Portsmouth. During the holiday there will be the opportunity to partake in some island walks.
Cost is £399 pp. Single room supplement £39, Insurance £14. Pick up by coach from Knutsford can be arranged, no need to travel to Leek.

LEEK U3A HOLIDAY IN MARRAKECH
We are invited to join Leek U3A on a 5 day holiday at the end of October or beginning of November 2012 based in Marrakech, including a tour of the Ourika Valley and a trip to Essaouria on the coast.
Details are now being finalised, but so far the cost is around £635 for 5 days and includes, flight from Manchester, B & B at a 4* hotel in Marrakech and a meal each day is also included, two days a dinner and three days a lunch. Single room supplement will be £69 and insurance £29.
Leek U3A have an excellent reputation for organising holidays and use Tailored Travel, an ATOL registered company, who specialise in group travel, particularly for U3A groups. Six members from Knutsford joined Leek members in Madrid in November and other Knutsford U3A members are joining the holiday to the Isle of Wight in June.
