AN ORDINARY DIVA
On Saturday 3rd March 16 of us from Music Appreciation Groupisited Bridgewater Hall to see "An Ordinary Diva" – an afternoon to celebrate the centenary of Kathleen Ferrier's birth.
Firstly, a mezzo soprano, Kathryn Rudge accompanied on the piano by James Baillieu, entertained us with a selection of songs which Kathleen Ferrier performed ranging from Mahler to the amusing 'stuttering lovers'. Kathryn was brilliant – young lady to watch out for.
This was followed by a BBC4 Award winning documentary, made in 2004, charting the 'Diva's' life and including contributions from those who had known and performed with her. The producers of the film were present and a lively questions and answer session followed.
This was a hugely enjoyable afternoon which gave an entertaining insight into the life of this remarkable, yet 'down to earth', singer.
